Cruise Control Systems: Description

The cruise control system uses mechanical, electrical and vacuum operated devices to maintain vehicle speed at setting selected by the driver. The cruise control unit receives command signals from the cruise control main and set/resume/cancel switches. Control unit also receives operating signals from brake switch, distributor, speed pulser and clutch switch (man. trans.) or shift position switch (auto. trans.).

Cruise control unit sends operating signals to throttle control devices to regulate throttle position. Control unit compares actual vehicle speed to selected speed and sends a signal to open or close throttle. The brake switch releases system control of throttle the moment the brake pedal is depressed.

The clutch switch, shift position switch and cancel switch send a disengage signal to the control unit. The control unit releases control of the throttle when any of the switches are depressed.
