Re-Programming DME Control Unit
NOTIFICATION
Voltage drop
- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming
- → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
- → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
- → Connect the battery charger with at least>current 90 A to the vehicle battery.
Information
- All remote controls (keys) are required for teaching a DME, rear-end electronics (rear BCM), electronic steering lock (ELV) control unit for example, or for teaching remote controls (keys).
- Remote controls (keys) that are not taught during this teaching procedure will no longer be recognized by the vehicle.

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester .
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Place original remote control in emergency start tray.
Emergency start tray
- Select the vehicle type if necessary.
- In the overview , select the DME control unit. Press F12 to continue. Should a "Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)" be created? Press F11 to continue.
- Select Coding/programming .
- Select Automatic programming . Press F12 to continue.
- Follow instructions on Tester. Press F12 to continue.
- Switch ignition off and then on again.
- Select Automatic coding . Press F12 to continue.
- The tester displays the message: Coding was completed successfully.
- Switch back to the Overview menu.
- Select Additional menu . Press F7 to continue.
- Select Immobiliser commissioning . Read and follow the information and instructions on the Tester. Press F12 to continue.
- Enter the PPN user name and password . Press F12 to continue.
- The tester displays the message: Login successful . Press F12 to continue.
- Enter the repair order number. Press F12 to continue.
- The vehicle identification number is displayed. Change it if necessary.
- Follow instructions on Tester. Press F12 to continue.
- Press F11 to end immobiliser commissioning and return to the overview.
- In the Overview , select the Engine electronics DME control unit.
- Select Maintenance/repairs . Press F12 to continue.
- Select Adaptations
. Press F12 to continue.
All functions listed under Adaptations must be selected and adapted one by one.
- Function selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Adapt function. Press F8 to start.
- 24.1 Perform adaptation according to menu guidance. End adaptation with F8.
- 24.2 Select the next function. Perform adaptation (for instructions, see above).
Hybrid vehicles, continue with step 25.
Non-hybrid vehicles, continue with step 26.
- Commission the decoupler.
- 25.1 Select Decoupler commissioning .
- 25.2 Select Decoupler commissioning after part replacement .
- 25.3 Perform commissioning according to menu guidance.
- Read out all fault memories and delete any fault entries.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
- Lock, open and start the vehicle using all remote controls.
- Carry out a test drive and then read out the fault memory again.
