Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LA1) in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Intake Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
  3. Remove the engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left  or Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right .
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the three-way catalytic converter pipe from the engine right side exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  6. Remove the right front wheel and tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  7. Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine in Body Front End.

  9. Remove the engine mount lower nuts.

    NOTE: In order to avoid oil pan damage and possible engine failure, insert a block of wood that spans the width of the oil pan bottom between the oil pan and the jack support.
  11. Use a utility stand and a block of wood in order to raise the engine.
  12. For FWD, remove the engine mount bracket-to-oil pan bolts.

  14. For AWD, remove the engine mount bracket-to-oil pan bolts (1).
  15. For AWD, remove the engine mount bracket-to engine bolts (2).
  16. Remove the engine mount and the engine mount bracket.

  18. Remove the engine mount upper nuts.
  19. Remove the engine mount from the engine mount bracket.
