Diagnostic Procedure

Remove Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor, and place in heated water. See Figure. Measure resistance between ECT sensor terminals (component side), with water at specified temperatures. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR RESISTANCE . If resistance is not as specified, replace ECT sensor and retest system. If resistance is as specified, test is complete.

(1) Resistance should decrease as temperature increases. See Figure.
