Start Valve (190E 2.6L & 300 Series - Method B)
- To test start valve injector, engine coolant temperature must be less than 158°F (70°C). Disconnect start valve injector connector. Connect voltmeter to start injector connector. Remove crankshaft position indicator plug from ignition switching unit (Green cable located on firewall) or install Protective Plug (102 589 02 21 00) on diagnostic socket.
- Check voltage while cranking starter motor. Voltage should be at least 10 volts. Disconnect fuel line from start injector. Use shop rag around fitting to catch fuel spray while loosening fitting. Remove start injector from manifold and reconnect fuel line. Hold start valve into container. Plug manifold hole.
- Start engine. Pulsating fuel spray from start injector should be cone-shaped. Quickly disconnect start injector and dry any gasoline from nozzle of cold start valve. Note if fuel droplets form on start valve tip. If droplets do form, valve is leaking and needs replacement. If start valve does not leak and performs as described above, install start valve injector with new gasket.
NOTE:
During warm-up and at operating temperature, current to electrohydraulic actuator is determined by coolant temperature sensor, O[I2] sensor and CIS-E control unit
