Description & Operation

The generator is a 3-phase, field-sensed unit. An electronic voltage regulator controls output voltage by high frequency switching of rotor field circuit. On some models, generator is cooled by a fan that is mounted behind the pulley. Generator system uses a charge indicator warning light located in the instrument panel. If charge indicator warning light bulb fails, voltage is supplied through a resistor (wired in parallel with the bulb) to ensure generator output is maintained.

NOTE: The terms generator and alternator are interchangeable. Either may be found within illustrations.
