Sensor, Camshaft Position, 2.8L Diesel: Operation
The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is a hall effect switch. The reluctor (1) made of a ferromagnetic material is attached to the camshaft. When the tooth passes the CMP sensor, an electronic signal is created. This signal is then sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to determine Top Dead Center (TDC), and which cylinder has just entered its compression phase.
