[DIAGNOSTIC TYPE 1] - AVN (AUDIO/VIDEO/NAVIGATION) ERROR MESSAGES
If any of the following AVN error messages are observed. Check the Audio/AVN system as these may not be related to the antenna.
| Preparing XM RADIO | Preparing SiriusXM RADIO |
| XM Start Up Error | SIRIUS Start Up Error |
[Diagnostic Type 2] - No satellite radio reception
If a "No Signal" message is observed and connections at the head unit and antenna are secure. Check the feeder cable.
| No Signal Message | |
- Check to ensure that the Antenna connector(s) are connected securely at the A-Pillar and C-Pillar (FM1 and FM2).
- Check if the "No Signal" message persists after checking Antenna connector(s).
If the "No Signal" message persists, check the vehicle grounds to ensure that the nut is tightened & properly grounded to the surface of the car.
Torque Spec: 0.06ft/lbf~0.11ft/lbf/cm
[DIAGNOSTIC TYPE 3] - INTERMITTENT WEAK SATELLITE RADIO RECEPTION
If a "WEAK" message is observed,
- Ensure that there are no environment obstructions and the antenna is uncovered and has a clear view of the sky.
Examples:
- If you are driving in a tunnel or a covered parking area.
- If you are driving beneath the top level of a multi-level freeway.
- If you are driving under a bridge.
- If you are driving next to a tall vehicle (such as a truck or a bus) that blocks the signal.
- If you are driving in a valley where the surrounding hills or peaks block the signal from the satellite.
- If you are driving on a mountain road where the signal is blocked by mountains.
- If you are driving in an area with tall trees that block the signal (i.e. Roads that goes through dense forest).
- There may be a weak in some areas that are not covered by SXM's repeater network.
| Intermittent WEAK Message | |
- Check for a loose connection or ground.
- If the "No Signal" message persists, check the vehicle grounds to ensure that the nut is tightened & properly grounded to the surface of the car.
Torque Spec: 0.06ft/lbf~0.11ft/lbf/cm
- Check all the connection points (A to D) from the head unit to the antenna.
[DIAGNOSTIC TYPE 4] - POOR GPS RECEPTION (POSITION INACCURACY)
If it's reported that the GPS position is inaccurate,
- Ensure that the compass indicator is not grayed out and is receiving a GPS satellite signal.
| No GPS satellite signal | Receiving GPS satellite signal |
- Ensure that there are no environment obstructions and the antenna is uncovered and has a clear view of the sky.
Examples:
- If you are driving in a tunnel or a covered parking area.
- If you are driving beneath the top level of a multi-level freeway.
- If you are driving under a bridge.
- If you are driving next to a tall vehicle (such as a truck or a bus) that blocks the signal.
- If you are driving in a valley where the surrounding hills or peaks block the signal from the satellite.
- If you are driving on a mountain road where the signal is blocked by mountains.

- Check for a loose connection or ground.
- Check the vehicle grounds to ensure that the nut is tightened & properly grounded to the surface of the car.
Torque Spec: 0.06ft/lbf~0.11ft/lbf/cm
- Check all the connection points (A to D) from the head unit to the antenna.
[DIAGNOSTIC TYPE 5] - POOR AM/FM RADIO RECEPTION
If AM/FM reception is poor and/or intermittent
- Check the voltages at the antenna
- Check the glass antenna inside the C-Pillar:
- If the AM reception is not good, check the glass antenna on the RH side
- If the FM reception is not good, check both the LH and RH side (Glass Antenna)
| Models with Glass Antenna
NOTE:
Do not replace roof mounted antenna for AM/FM reception concerns.

[DIAGNOSTIC TYPE 6] - IMPROPER MANUFACTURING AND ASSEMBLY
If any of the below is noted, do not replace the antenna assembly.
| Improper Assembly | ||
| A-Pillar connector not secured | C-Pillar connector not secured | Antenna connector not secured |
| Damaged or bent pins | Damaged to the feeder cable wire(s) | |
HOW TO CHECK THE FEEDER CABLE
Electric Current
- Set the Multimeter to the "Electrical Resistance/Ohms" (Ω) setting.
- Confirm that there is a 'Beep' sound when the positive (+) and negative (-) leads touch.NOTE: Not all multimeters have a beep sound as an indicator. Please reference the instructional guide of the multimeter being used to ensure that a proper indicator is being utilized.
- Use the positive (+) and negative (-) leads to touch the feeder cable connectors.
- A 'Beep' sound confirms that there is continuity Good.
- No 'Beep' sound confirms that there is no continuity Not Good and requires cable replacement.
- A 'Beep' sound confirms that there is continuity Good.
- Use the positive (+) and negative (-) leads to touch the feeder cable connectors.
