Steering System: Column: Installation: Installation
- If the column was replaced, position the plastic bracket (1) and install and securely tighten the screws (2).
- Install the steering column through the steering column opening.
- Raise the column onto the mounting studs and install the two mounting nuts (2) on the studs and install the mounting bolts (1).NOTE:
Verify that the tilt lever is in the unlocked position prior to tightening the steering column fasteners.
- Install two column mounting bolts (1). Tighten all 4 column fasteners to 15 N.m (180 in. lbs.)

NOTE:A new pinch bolt (3) must be installed every time the pinch bolt is removed.
- Verify the front wheels of vehicle are in the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position.
- Slide the intermediate shaft (2) onto the steering gear pinion shaft (4).
- Install a NEW pinch bolt (3) and tighten the bolt to 30 N.m (22 ft. lbs.).
- Install knee blocker, if equipped.
- Confirm that:
- The front wheels are in the STRAIGHT-AHEAD position.
- The turn signal stalk is in the NEUTRAL position.
- Connect wiring harness connectors at the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM).
- Install the driver airbag. Refer to AIR BAG, DRIVER, INSTALLATION .
- Install the upper column shroud (1) over the column assembly.
- Install the lower shroud (1). Refer to SHROUD, STEERING COLUMN, LOWER, INSTALLATION
.WARNING:
Do not connect the battery ground cable without following the proper procedure as indicated in the following step. Personal injury or death may result if the Airbag System Test is not performed first.
- Reconnect the battery ground terminal following the Airbag System Test found in the Restraints service information. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
- Perform EPS Learn Procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Test the operation of all column mounted components. If applicable, reset the radio and the clock as necessary.
- Road test the vehicle to ensure proper operation of the steering system.
