RISK OF INJURY if oil comes into contact with eyes and skin!
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Draw off and dispose of hydraulic fluid from fluid reservoir
- Remove track rod end on both sides from swivel bearing
- Version with Dynamic Drive: Remove both anti-roll bar links from anti-roll bar. See 31 35 005 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING PUSH ROD (STABILIZER LINK) FOR LEFT/RIGHT STABILIZER.
- Remove lower section of steering spindle from steering gear
Lower front axle support. See 31 11 506 LOWERING/RAISING FRONT AXLE CARRIER (UNIVERSAL LIFTER) .
Mark installation positions of pressure and return lines to power steering gear. Release banjo bolts (1). Disconnect pressure line (2) and return line (3) from power steering gear. Installation: Replace all sealing rings. Align pressure and return lines by way of markings and tighten down banjo bolts. Tightening torque 32 41 5AZ (pressure line), see 32 41 PUMP AND OIL SUPPLY . Tightening torque 32 41 6AZ (return line), see 32 41 PUMP AND OIL SUPPLY .
Release nuts and remove screws (1) towards bottom. Remove hydraulic steering gear (2) sideways between engine and front axle supports. Installation: When installing, make sure that the steering gear is realigned to the markings applied to the front axle support prior to removal. Replace screws and nuts.
